When you decide to renovate your bathroom, why don’t you paint it blue? Blue is a perfect color for a bathroom because it is relaxing, cool, and also conveys the image of water (of which you have plenty when you are taking a bath or shower). You can also mix the blue color scheme with a specific theme, such as the sea or the beach.
The first thing you need to do is paint your walls in light blue. Only use a waterproof paint that has been specifically designed for the bathroom. The great thing about using a pale blue color is that it essentially blends in with a lot of other colors. Therefore, if your bath, toilet, and sink are white, peach, pink, or even a green color, they will still blend in with your walls. This will give your bathroom a very aquatic feel.
The next thing to do is get some good accessories in various shades of blue. When building a color scheme, accessories can be everything. This is certainly true when it comes to the shower curtain, which often dominates the overall look of the bathroom, especially if it is a relatively small room. Find a shower curtain with a strong shade of blue. It does not have to be a plain blue, either. You could get one with a sea scene, fish, or blue floral designs. This will even create some nice contrasts that will not make the blue too overwhelming.
Then, of course, you should find a matching area rug. A rug will make any bathroom look good and since most bathrooms have wood flooring or tile flooring it also provides a pleasant soft place to put your feet when emerging from the bath. A good tip is to buy a rug made from a waterproof, washable material as it will be exposed to a lot of moisture and wear being used in the bathroom.
To add to the theme of softness, hang up some fluffy, blue bath towels. Soft, fluffy towels are not only practical and useful. They make the bathroom look luxurious and soft, rather than functional and industrial. For your own comfort, hang them on heated rails so that they will be deliciously warm and ready for you when you come out of the bath.
Needless to say, if you are going to put up bathroom cabinets, you can also paint them in a shade of blue – either dark or light, depending on the rest of the room. And we must not forget that “the devil is in the details.” Smaller accessories, such as toilet paper holders, soap dispensers, and toothbrush cups, can also come in different shades of blue.
Of course, if you find all of this blue a little too much, you can dilute it by getting some of these accessories in gray, silver, coral, mauve, or sea-green. These colors blend in very easily and add to the maritime theme. They are also cool, relaxing colors and will only contribute to the atmosphere that you are trying to achieve.
So enjoy your blue bathroom – and don’t forget that having the “bathroom blues” does not refer to feeling sad …
